After so many years of not being able to spend as much quality time together as we would have wanted to, this is the first year we decided to enjoy a staycation together. And it gets even better: this is actually our second one! Truth be told, this almost feels like a blessing in disguise during the COVID pandemic, I guess.
However, because life is full of surprises of each kind, due to showers of rain, we could only spend our staycation inside our room. Nonetheless, we had plenty of fun and we laughed non-stop.
Truly, we couldn’t be happier about our precious staycation together!
My Tina tape yarn from WATG is finally here after 3 weeks of wait.
I ordered Midnight Blue for the guys and Hot Pink for the ladies.
I also got Jog Grey for Jake’s new Dino jacket and Space Black for myself.
Tina Tape’s simply the best at having the planet’s back. It’s made from eucalyptus tree fibre using renewable energy – double win. And wait for it, this softer-than silk, cooler-than-linen flat tape yarn’s vegan and uses no nasty chemicals either.
If anyone is interested in this yarn instead of our Shiny Happy Cotton yarns. Drop me an email and we can discuss more!
Great news ahead: staycation starts now! Thankfully, for the next one and a half months, it is school holiday period in Singapore and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it!
This week is our first staycation and we have already made our plans about indoors activities and other fun stuff we have prepared. It is so exciting that we will spend more time together as a family and we are always grateful for this! We will relax, watch movies, eat a lot of great food and enjoy each other’s company.
Nothing can beat a fabulous staycation with your loved ones!
Because we loved our time at the Marina Bay Sand, we went back there for a lovely staycation with aunt Janet. Even though we never really have the same perspective on things, my heart aches looking at her… She is so sweet and truly dotes on her nieces and grandnephew!
During our staycation, a rather distinct feeling embraced me and I couldn’t help but wonder if the next day I will wake up and find her resting in a painless and peaceful forever sleep…
As I grow older, I certainly start cherishing everyone around me even more than I did before, and give my thanks for each beautiful day that I receive as a gift to wake up to.
There are only two weeks left until Jake’s final exam and we are all on our toes, excited and anxious as well. We decided to book a staycation for Jake mainly. In this way, he can study in peace while at the same time enjoying the hotel’s awesome and pristine facilities.
Staying at home was simply not an option for us. It would have driven all of us crazy to be stuck in the same place and wait for the time to pass until his exam.
It was the right decision for us and it was definitely a success for Jake!
Of course, we had to plan something for this year’s Children’s Day. We made up our minds and booked a 3-days staycation at Michael Hotel in Sentosa. Because of H’s crazy schedule always standing in the way of planning a vacation, it’s been a long time since we’ve actually travelled, not to mention enjoying a staycation. This was the perfect excuse for us to savor the nice and well-deserved break!
We love creating memories and enjoy having adventures together! We went to the Mega Adventure – Singapore to have a taste of the world’s famous Mega Zip flying fox. It was so exciting for the children and we definitely had our fair share of laughs and contentment.
We are certainly now looking forward to our next staycation!
Needless to say, 2020 was a tough and consuming year for everyone. As traveling is not an option at the moment, we’ve decided to book a staycation for the kids. It was about time they get out of the house and enjoy their free time around other kids, living their childhood care-free, as it is supposed to be.
We thought that Marina Bay Sands would be the perfect choice for this. If you are not familiar with the hotel, it is one of the most famous hotels in Singapore, mainly due to the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool.
The kids had a blast and we enjoyed watching them play together and get a sense of normalcy during these pandemic times.
This year I was so eager to plan an outdoor photoshoot! For our location, I chose a place so dear to my heart – Little Wola Cafe. The cafe is co-founded by someone whom I worked for 15 years ago at his other cafe. They serve everything, from hot dishes to desserts. From the top of my head, their waffles and Lava cake are mouthwatering!
This year’s photoshoot revolved around something extremely close to my heart: Mommy and Me outfits. I am such a big fan of tulle skirts. I believe they are so dreamy and whimsical! Also, I’m completely in love with overalls. I started knitting 3 lovely cardigans for some amazing mommies and their princesses. I also got them white tulle skirts to perfectly go together with the cardigan.
For myself and Jake, I chose matching overalls and it was adorable! Such a memorable and lovely experience for the both of us!
You might ask yourself what is the difference between having an indoor versus an outdoor photoshoot. For us, it was really fun to have our photos taken and indulge our sweet-tooth with tasteful desserts and coffee. We are so excited for our next photoshoot with them, which hopefully is going to be soon enough!
For every parent, a child’s birthday is a celebration, a moment in time so precious that they wish to remember forever. Because of COVID-19 and the entire pandemic context, we were not able to celebrate Jake’s birthday in the way we wanted to, nor were we allowed to travel.
We are so grateful for our families, as they make everything more precious! Aunty Jane baked the most delicious cake for Jake and we ordered lunch at home.
For his birthday, Jake was all caught up and mesmerized by his LEGOs and had fun the entire day. For dinner, we stopped by the `Hard Rock Café` and enjoyed our cozy and memorable family dinner!
Truly a moment in time we will cherish indefinitely!
Nowadays, it appears that kids are simply glued to their electronic devices. Through their tech gadgets they explore the world in a different way than the previous generations did. Some of the greatest sensations are TikTok and YouTube, with the consequence that kids now dream of becoming the next YouTube star one day.
Nothing wrong with that, it’s merely different than the usual classic and rigorous well-known career paths.
Don’t get mistaken – there’s no difference for Jake. As Jake has ADHD, his focus is rather abbreviated in time. Thus, he best concentrates and directs his attention when he is building his LEGO tower or when playing video games on his Switch console or iPad. He is not particularly hyper active, but he loses his interest faster in things or tasks which he doesn’t like or find interesting.
For a very long time now, he has been requesting to have his very own YouTube channel and you know how we, parents, are. It is quite tough to resist those precious puppy dog eyes when they ask us of anything. So, there I was, during the Curitiba break, trying to come up with a name for his channel and design a matching and attractive logo.
And we finally got it right - `Jake of All Trades`!
`Why Jake of All Trades`? you may be asking yourself. I found my inspiration from the expression `Jack of all trades` which is a figure of speech. It basically stands for referring to a person who has dabbled into many skills and roles, but didn’t really gain much of an expertise in any of those domains. The version `a jack of all trades` is a sought-after compliment portraying a person who is able and capable of fixing thigs, whether that may be around the house or in general, and has a large spectrum of knowledge.
I felt like this goes well with my son’s ADHD because of which he gets bored of diving into only one activity and quickly shifts his focus onto the next thing that seems more fascinating, figuring out which one he likes the best. For a boy, I think it’s fabulous to try out everything, making him more able in the near and more distant future, to protect himself in some sort of way.
So, to put it out there, please support his channel @JakeOfAllTrades! He would really appreciate it and would feel encouraged to upload more videos and have fun while doing it! Thank you!
Jake Of All Trades - J.O.A.T x H.O.P - House Of Pumpkin
Children are our world, the very essence of our existence. For a parent, there is no length too great to cross to bring magic and happiness to the child.
House of Pumpkin started as a project of the heart. It encompasses everything that is delightful and gentle from the mother’s love for her children. My drive is to create and transpose these diaphanous feelings into kids’ fashion.
From 2008, I embarked on this journey with the vision to reveal each child’s uniqueness. Through House of Pumpkin knittings, kids can actually customize their fashion choices, not just follow trends. They can freely, imaginatively and creatively express themselves. These fashionable kids will bring into the world their own touch and ideas.
ONCE UPON A TIME
Pregnancy is the gift that keeps on giving the tender, warmhearted sense of love and bliss. A state of excitement, joy and curiosity for the unknown. One that most certainly will change you for the better. Everything shifts, not only the way you feel about yourself. It also uncovers the potential to indulge in the everlasting presence of love for a yet to be discovered little soul.
This indescribable bond translated into my wish to have matching outfits for me and my son. A precious token of a forever memory of us.
Yet, I simply did not find anything that would include all I wanted in terms of kids’ fashion, designs, children appropriate fabrics and so on. So, I decided to give my knitting talent a try and see what happens. I knew I could create something spectacular for my son. Something that would reflect my love and appreciation for him.
WHAT MOTIVATES US
Only if adults were as brave and visionary as children are, the world would have such a different light on it. After 2 years of consistent and dedicated effort, carefully analyzing and researching suitable yarns and designs, we have finally made up our minds and opened House of Pumpkin.
Ever since, my personal and so close to my heart project became my main interest. I had a mission: to create unique, bespoke kids clothing that would be fashionable and customizable as well. Sharing happiness means sharing our vision and hopes for a better future. The future of the children that we raise and encourage today.
THE VALUES WE SHARE
When I think of childhood, I picture whimsical dreams and fluffy dancing clouds. The world of imagination and creativity in which each child should develop, grow and express himself. Because every kid is unique, I wanted to reflect that through our products. We encourage kids to share their personality by choosing their own clothing.
I love kids’ sincerity! If you want to know the real truth, ask a child. He will bluntly put into adorable little words, his thoughts and impressions. This is why House of Pumpkins seek to incorporate only top-quality fabrics. We use a luxurious type of cotton - Pima cotton. This will feel so soft and smooth on the skin! Just like the sweet and cozy memories of bedtime stories.
BESPOKE AND READY-TO-WEAR KIDS FASHION
Our bespoke kids’ knits are the essence of playful charm. Who said that crochet can’t be stylish? Children are little adults and they love to know they can make their own decisions. Let them choose their outfit of the day. Take a picture, let them be proud of themselves!
The House of Pumpkin kids’ clothes are adaptable and easy to care of. From play dates, school days and trips to the park, to birthdays and theme parties, you have everything you need for your child. Our knits for kids are a must have!
For cold rainy days, the House of Pumpkin knit jacket is the perfect choice. So fashionable and chic! Your kid will adore mixing and matching knits with jeans, skirts or even PJ’s! Just imagine how comfy and dreamy that is!
House of Pumpkin is the realm where imagination, childhood purity and style coexist. The place where your kid can source his inspiration from. The spot to shop from if you look for statement knittings that tell a story. The story your children want to express.
Customizable, artistic and youthful knits for kids!
The story of our family goes something like this: We’ve always had our ups and downs, our fair share of hardships and beautiful moments. Unfortunately, I was designated to be the black ship of the family. Not quite sure why and when did this happen, but this was me in the eyes of everybody else.
Probably this is why I was never close to my family. Somehow, we didn’t manage to have a great relationship.
But sometimes, life has a way of sorting itself out. Everything changed when Jake came into our lives. He had an unimaginable light and power that created a bond between all of us.
Ever since, we started organizing family dinners and trips. This year was another first for us: our family photoshoot. Jolyn introduced us to her first boyfriend ever and I have to say they are incredible together. They complement each other so lovely and they really are perfect for one another. I am so happy and thrilled for her and so is the entire family.
As we were all gathered for the photoshoot, I realized there was something missing for me. Thus, I started knitting an entire collection for our first photoshoot. It was a precious memory for all of us and we marked it so lovely with special garments for each one of us:
Everything came together so beautifully and we are excited for our future family moments!
18th December - 22nd December 2019
We love our mother and son trips! After my previous vacation with Jake, I couldn’t wait to book our next one. This time around, our destination was Bali! Not hard to guess, Bali is one of the most visited and adored travelling destinations. The warm waters, idyllic sceneries and spectacular sunsets complemented our trip so beautifully!
For our residence, I chose COMO Uma Canggu and Hilton Bali. Jake was really eager to learn how to surf, so I got him some lessons at COMO Uma Canggu. Even though my workload was full and I didn’t get to spend much time with my son, which left me feeling kind of guilty, eventually I was so happy and impressed with his new acquired skills.
For our photoshoot, we chose to visit Alas Harun Bali. The tropical paradise was mesmerizing, making it the perfect background! The rollercoaster wasn’t the biggest joy for Jake, but since he isn’t afraid of heights, we hoped on all of the rides. He even went alone into the flying fox! Needless to say, my heart was pounding so fast!
One step at a time, we are closer to accomplishing our goal: creating a brand that is qualitative and enjoyed both by kids and mommies.
Can’t believe this is already our House of Pumpkin second photoshoot. We’re growing bigger and bigger and we’re so excited for you and your kids to try our gorgeous garments.
If everything goes accordingly to our plan, which I’m sure it will, we’ll be ready to launch our website by January 2020. It’s going to be charming, aesthetic and all of the products’ picture will be true to reality. We are so looking forward to this next chapter!
You know those online mommy groups? I am a member of one! I met marvelous people through it and made incredible friends. Jamie, one of my amazing mommy friends, had recently moved to Australia, so we thought it was the perfect opportunity to visit her. She was sweet and kind enough to let us stay at her place while we were in Sydney. Our kids had a blast together! Of course, us mommies enjoyed our glasses of wine at night, just thinking how lucky and fortunate we are to be having these amazing kids.
I think that by now, you may have already gotten the idea that we simply love photoshoots! For this one, we had our photoshoot at Mrs. Maquarie’s chair with one of our brand’s representatives in Australia. Even though the location was stunning, the photographer wasn’t at his best performance. Unfortunately, the photos turned out rather disappointing.
After we left Sydney, we drove to the Blue Mountains which are part of the UNESCO world’s heritage. We stayed there for a day before heading to the Canberra Snow Resort. Jake took his ski lessons there and his natural talent shone through! Even though I was so close to almost breaking every single bone in my body, the mother and son time we spent there was precious!
This 14-days trip was awesome and I really wish we can relive it all over again!
17th December - 20th December 2018
As my work travels were so frequent, the time I spent with my son, Jake, became shorter. Wanting more quality moments with him, I decided to plan the most wonderful mother and son trip.
For our vacation, I chose Phuket, Thailand. Even though there are a ton of destinations to choose from, this one appealed the most to me. The crystal clear water, velvety sands and the luxuriant flora were big bonus points for this location.
We stayed at COMO Point Yamu. This is a superb location, overlooking the Andaman Sea. Our vacatin there was marvelous and so relaxing. We enjoyed our time by the pool and soaked up the sun. Jake took his first jet ski session right at their beach club! Alas, he wasn’t too fond of it and I doubt he will try it again anytime soon.
The peak of our trip was for sure the photoshoot at the beach. This was our second photoshoot overseas and we had a blast! Everything went perfect and it captured the precious moments that we spent together.
I definitely suggest you try this for yourself and your child. It will fill you up with good energy and revitalize your entire mood!
House of Pumpkin’s First Photoshoot
Having the help of family and friends is everything! This is the House of Pumpkin first photoshoot! Here we are, taking big steps towards our dream. At the want only the best experiences for our clients. This being said, our designs are fabulous! We focus on creating amazing products that we will eventually share with all of the mommies out there.
We can’t wait to present you the photos we took, so that you’ll make an impression of how much passion went into developing our brand and into the children’s clothing line.
I’ve been travelling to Sidney for more than I can count, whether it was for work, studies or just for pleasure. However, my dad and Jake didn’t yet have the opportunityto visit it. Having this in mind, I made sure Sydney was the chosen destination for our annual family trip!
I was partially busy working, as I spent half of my time indoors, at the office. Even so,every day I gathered with my family for lunch, before I had to go back to work, and for dinner, as soon as I had finished my tasks. In this manner, they had plenty of time to enjoy sight-seeing and make the most out of their vacation in Sydney.
We couldn’t possibly leave Sydney without having a photoshoot. At first, my plan was to only take photos of Jake, but he was so adorable that I had to join in! To be honest, I kind of regret I didn’t invite my parents to take part in it as well. I am sure we would’ve had so much fun together. All in all, the photos turned out beautifully and we now have our wonderful memories to share together!
